In Barcelona, history and traditions go hand in hand with emerging fashion and new trends in cuisine, culture and art. To experience all the nuances and both of these faces of Barcelona, we proposes an itinerary that begins in the historic centre, visiting places such as Via Laietana, the cathedral and its cloister, the Gothic Quarter and Plaça Sant Jaume. Following this immersion in traditional Barcelona, we approach the place of key change in the city. With the hosting of the Olympic Games, Barcelona opened itself up to the sea and experienced economic and social invigoration. What better way to immerse ourselves in era of change when you passing by the Olympic Village, Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, Olympic Port, Palau Sant Jordi, the Calatrava Tower and then climb by Montjuïc. Finally, we will visit El Poble Espanyol (the Spanish Village), collection of traditional buildings from all over Spain, demonstrating a selection of the handcrafts made in country and providing the opportunity to taste the famous Catalan cava. And what better way to end the visit than with an aerial view of Barcelona from the cable car, which brings us to Montjuïc’s Castle in 15 minutes.

Note: from January 20th to March 12th (dates to be confirmed) the cable car doesn’t work due to revision tasks, this service will be replaced by a tapas tasting in Spanish Village.

On second part of the tour (start at 15.00, Check in time at Office Balmes 5, at 14.45) you will follow your trip from Barcelona to the mountain of Montserrat which rises majestically to 4,051 feet (1,236 meter). You will go up to Montserrat with Cog – Wheel Train which leaves you in the middle of the Monastery. It is a 15-minute trip with a privileged and spectacular view of the mountain. The train has panoramic windows which make the actual journey an interesting attraction. The trains are air-conditioned and they are completely wheelchair-friendly. The rocks of Montserrat formed by natural cement of sand during the centuries affected by the wind and rain who shaped the mountain with strange and varied forms. The popular imagination has seen human or animal shape in some of these peaks, giving them names and inventing legends to explain their fantastic origins. You will visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta, the Black Virgin. The Benedictine sanctuary of Montserrat was founded on 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia who is enshrined in the monastery’s Royal Basilica. The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who contributed to the spread of stories of miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Today, Montserrat has been modernized to continue attending to the needs to pilgrims one thousand years after it was originally founded.
